What are good options for a hard drive upgrade?

I am looking to upgrade my stock hard drive, I was looking to keeping it with the same brand as the stock, just increasing the capacity. The stock is a Hitachi HTS545025B9SA02 256GB HDD 5400rpm. i was looking for 1TB hard drive.

I have a few basic questions.

Should i be looking for a 9.5mm hard drive?

(I read my current hard disk is a 9.5mm hard disk)

Should i go for any manufacturer when it comes to hard disk?

(I have read in other forums that its better to stick with the manufacturer of the stock hard disk, hitachi in my case.)

Is it drastically better to switch to a 7200rpm hard disk?

(I have read that 7200rpm hard disk causes heating issues in some 2010 macbook pros. And i keep my mac running for long hours, so it already gets bearably too hot.)

The heat issues have largely dissipated in the last few years. Sticking with the same brand is not an issue on your model. If it came into my shop I would highly recommend a hybrid drive like a Seagate SSHD. They come in 500GB & 1 TB. It will give you a perceived speed increase of up to 50% IN MY EXPERIENCE. When you change drive you would do well to also change the hard drive/IR cable. I use the one from the 2012 13" MBP machine as I feel it is much better built.

Sure thanks, i cant really bring it to service, I am half the world away from where you are. I am not actually using this mac, its only a local media server. So i only need more storage than performance. The load on the "server" isn't even considerable. i was looking at Hitachi HTS721010A9E630

@qwerty300 - You can do this all yourself, that's main point of the site. I listed the guides on replacing the hard drive and cable. The guides list all the tools you'll need (which is basically a #00 Phillips screwdriver. The part number for the drives and cable are listed on the links. The hard drives are available all over the world. The cable can be found on eBay wherever you are (just be sure to get a new one rather than used),
