Phone Freezing
Phone is not responding or is frozen on one screen.
App Failure
This would happen when an app freezes. The boot screen looks like a bunch of lines running across the screen. A way to get rid of this boot screen is to hold down the volume and power buttons to do a soft reset.
Faulty SD Card
Another option to the phone freezing is to simply take out the SD Card. Listed are those steps:
- Ensure the device is powered off.
- From the right edge of the device (display facing down), open the slot cover using your thumb or finger.
- Push in on the storage card to eject it from the slot.
- Remove the card from the slot.
- Close the slot cover.
- Press from the bottom to the top of the cover to lock it in place.
Faulty Device Setting
Note: A factory reset will put the phone back to its initial state so it is important that you do not need anything from the phone. Here are the steps on how to factory reset the device.
From the Home screen, tap > Settings > Backup & reset.
- Tap Reset phone.
- To also delete media and other data from your storage card, select Erase SD card.
- Tap OK.
Non-Responsive Screen
The glass screen on the front is shattered, and it also is unresponsive to touch if you try and use the screen.
Dropping the Phone Consistently
One of the best ways to repair the phone would be to find a cheap screen replacement kit (including an adhesive layer), a new LCD Panel, and a new digitizer. Once you use the pry-tools and the suction cup to remove the screen, there will be a couple screws to remove that will give you access to the digitizer. Remove the connectors and swap it out with the new one and re-apply the connectors. Then when you’re assembling the phone again, you can connect the new LCD panel the same way as the digitizer, then click the new screen into place once the new adhesive is placed.
Distorted Speaker Audio
When trying to listen to any audio through the speakers, the sound is distorted and not accurate, the fix to this is a new speaker in the device.
Water Damage
Once the phone is taken apart during the replacement of the digitizer, there should be about two more screws to remove that will give you access to the speaker housing at the bottom of the phone. It is connected to some wires, remove the connectors attached to the wires and carefully pull out the old speaker and dispose of it properly. Once that is out, you can connect the wires for the new speaker to the existing connectors in the phone and push the speaker into place, then fasten it back down by putting the screws back in the proper area.
Trouble Connecting to Wireless Networks
When the phone is working, it won’t allow you to connect to any wireless networks, which means you don’t have any access to internet-based apps or features.
Faulty Antenna Bands
This is one of the easier fixes with this device, all you have to do for taking apart the phone is to separate the back cover from the front and internals of the phone. Once this is removed, on the inside of the back cover, you will find thin, black stripes of what looks to be tape that has been glued to the corners. You can use tweezers to pick off and remove the faulty/damaged antenna bands. You can order new antennas and then use the adhesive to replace the old ones with the new ones.
Doesn’t Charge When Plugged In
When the phone is in sleep mode, or turned off, and you plug the charging cable into the Micro USB port, nothing happens, and the phone doesn’t even recognize that it’s supposed to be charging.
Water got into the Port
For this to be repaired you will have to purchase a new Micro USB port for the phone, so you can swap it out with the broken one. You need to remove the screen of the phone and some screw to remove the protective plates, and also have to remove the battery. Disconnect the battery for safety, then you will have access to the charging port at the bottom of the phone and will have to remove some connectors and unscrew it, so it is detached from the phone. Place in the new one, attach it to the wires/connectors and re-screw back into place.
Battery Drains Quickly
Even when the device is not in use, it loses a significant percent of its battery.
Some strategies that should be attempted to preserve the battery include:
- From your settings, turn on “Power Saver mode”.
- Lower your screen’s brightness.
- Adjust the duration of your phone’s timeout screen.
- Uninstall any unused apps.
- Close any apps you may have running.
- Update your device to the latest software
- Turn off your GPS Location
- Turn off WiFi
- Deactivate Bluetooth
If none of these options are significantly improving your battery life, it may be time to replace the device’s battery.
Battery Replacement
This repair can be a tricky one, but not too hard to accomplish. Below are the steps necessary to replace the defective battery with a new one.
- First you have to buy the new battery to replace the broken one.
- Once you’ve acquired the new battery, you need to remove the screen from the device, so that you may have full access to the inside of the phone. In most cases, it works best to grab a hairdryer and put it on the lowest setting for warmth and blow it onto the battery for a couple minutes. This allows the adhesive to break up and then you are able to pry the battery out with ease.
- Similar to the rest, you will need to disconnect the battery from the phone and remove it from the device.
- With the purchase of your new battery should have came new adhesive strips, place those down where the old adhesive was, and firmly press the battery back into place.
- Reconnect the battery and cover the phone back up and it should turn back on without an issue.
Phone Overheating
Phone overheats while being used or touched.
If your phone is overheating the cause could be:
- The CPU is too busy
- You are asking for excessive power
- The phone overheats while charging
To stop your phone from overheating:
- If the CPU is too busy- close any open applications and wait for device to cool.
- If you're asking for excessive power- shutdown any applications or games and give your phone a break.
* If your phone overheats while charging- make sure the charging cable is the original that came with the phone. If you no longer have the original, just try a different cable.
