Laptop Will Not Power On

Pressing the power button does not turn on the laptop.

Faulty Charger

If the charger is malfunctioning, the laptop will not receive any power and will be unable to turn on. You can figure out if this is the issue by borrowing someone else’s charger and seeing if it works with your laptop. To fix this, purchase a new charger.

Faulty Battery

If the laptop only turns on when when battery is removed from laptop and plugged in, the issue could lie with a faulty battery. This can be fixed by replacing the battery following this guide.

Residual Electrical Charge

Sometimes a residual charge can prevent the laptop from turning on, you can fix this by draining the computer. This is done by removing the charger and holding the power button for 15 seconds. If residual charge was the problem, then plugging in the charger will allow the laptop to power on.

Laptop Audio is Distorted

Playing audio on the laptop results in unexpected audio distortion.

Loose Headphone Jack

If the audio is only distorted when listening with headphones, the headphone jack is probably not fully inserted. This can be remedied by making sure the jack is thoroughly inserted to the point where it does not move around.

Faulty Headphones

If audio is only distorted when played through headphones and the jack is fully inserted, the headphones themselves could be at fault. Test the headphones with another device to make sure this is the case and if it is, you will need a new pair of headphones.

Faulty Hard Drive

If the problem does not lie with the headphones or headphone jack, the laptop's hard drive could be causing audio distortion, as a faulty hard drive can cause many miscellaneous problems. The hard drive can be replaced following this guide.

Keyboard Won’t Respond Correctly

Pressing keys on the keyboard either produces the wrong output or no output at all.

Debris Under Keys

If pressing keys produces incorrect output or causes them to stick in position, there may be unwanted refuse under the keys and the area under the keys must be cleaned.

Outdated Keyboard Drivers

If there appears to be no problem with the keys, you may need to get updated drivers from Toshiba's website.

Faulty Keyboard

If there is no refuse under the keys and drivers are updated, the keyboard itself could be faulty. Refer to this guide to replace the laptop's keyboard.

Laptop Is Overheating

Using the laptop for a short amount of time results in overheating.

Blockage of Vent

If your laptop’s vent is blocked by an object, it will not be able to expel air and it will overheat, drastically decreasing its performance. Make sure the laptop is in a position that gives it plenty of space.

Dust In Fan

If the laptop overheats after running for a short time, there could be a buildup of dust in the fan blocking the air flow. This can be remedied by removing the back panels of the laptop and spraying the fan with short bursts of air from a compressed air can at different angles.

Faulty Fan

A malfunctioning fan will not be able to properly cool the laptop and must be replaced. To replace a faulty fan, refer to this guide.

Discs Not Being Read

Trying to play CDs or DVDs results in errors or nothing happening.

Scratched Disc

If the disc has any scratches or cracks when viewed under a light, it must be replaced with a new disc.

Out-of-date Disc Drive Driver

If there's not a problem with the disc, the computer could require updated drivers to read it. You can acquire the latest drivers from Toshiba's website.

Faulty Disc Drive

If the disc has no problems and drivers are up-to-date, the disc drive itself could be damaged and it can be replaced by following this guide.

The little thing that plugs the charger to the laptop broke off. Is it kapoot?
