Background
The 5th generation Airport Extreme Model A1408 wireless router is an update to the 4th generation Model A1354. It was released on June 21, 2011. A key new feature is dual band support for 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands that enables broader and faster connection. This is the only way to tell the fourth and fifth generation models apart since they are both identical in appearance. The router comes with three extra Ethernet ports, one USB port, and a power port.
Identification
The model number A1408 is located on the back pad underneath the router in small print next to the serial number.
