According to the Gizmodo review, "the new Xbox 360 sadly doesn't have gigabit ethernet to speed networking up."
Sorry :(

I tested it with my router (NETGEAR WNDR 3700 Gigabit/Dual Band N router (A/B/G/N). the NIC only tested at 100Mbps. It is not a Gigabit NIC at all. What also does not make sense is that the WIFI card is not dual band. It only works on th b/G/N (2.4ghz) band. The 5.8 ghz A/N band is much more suitable for media so this is big time mistake on Micro$oft's part.
The add on card they sell for the old 360 is A/B/G/N compatible, go figure what the &@$% they were thinking with the built in wifi card and NIC on the XBOX 360 S.

There is a reason why it only has 100Mbps. There is no DSL service that needs more....
Use 802.11n WiFi. It's faster.

Microsoft and fast reliable networking - now that's a silly idea only dreamed of by fools.
I use Virgin Media cable for my internet - 100Mb - so already the slow network adapter on the x-box can't give me my full internet bandwidth. Wireless is a waste of space unless you can use 5Ghz range.
Microsoft need to wake-up and smell the future, overlooking the fact that in real terms networking speeds are quoted to include both directions - so 100Mb in reality is only 50Mb not taking in to account any deduction for overhead.
Not very good and so not future proof.

Could you add a cat5e Jack

This is its own question. It shouldn't be an answer here. Also, cat5e is a type of cable. The jack is called RJ45.
@Angelars It would help streaming content from a PC to the Xbox

People use the 360 for more than just gaming!
As a media center extender for windows media center I can not stream High bit rate blue ray movies through my 360 extender without getting studdering of the picture and I believe that the 100MB nic could be the bottle neck as some blue rays burst up to 30MB + , either the nic or the 360's internals can handle the data rate.
