Audio-Technica ATH-M40x Left Driver Replacement

Make sure the headphones are unplugged before you begin the repair.
This repair requires soldering. If you are unfamiliar or inexperienced with soldering, refer to this guide on How to Solder and Desolder Connections for instructions and safety information. It's important to solder in a well-ventilated room and to use safety glasses to protect your eyes. Soldering irons are very hot and can burn.

Grip the ear cup, gently twist it, and pull it off.

Use a Phillips #0 screwdriver to remove the four 3 mm screws securing the driver.

Desolder the two connections labeled L+ and LG to disconnect the left driver from the headphones.

Although this guide demonstrates how to replace the left driver, the right speaker wires are soldered onto this board also. When replacing the right driver, desolder the connectors labeled RG and R+.
