Ball catches are commonly found on top of closet doors and French doors. However, they are hard to see since they are located on top of the door. If your closet door is not flush with the door frame or keeps coming loose when shut, chances are the ball catch has become loose and needs to be replaced.

It is easy to replace a ball catch on top of the door. It takes less than 10 minutes and only requires a cordless drill or a Phillips head screwdriver. Once you replace the ball catch, your closet doors will close securely.

This guide will show you how to replace the ball catch in six easy steps.

    • Locate the ball catch on top of the door.

    • Use the drill to remove the two screws, one on each side of the plate.

    • Remove the defective ball catch from the top of the door.

    • Locate the pilot holes on the sides.

    • Drop the new ball catch in the cavity.

    • Align the pilot holes with the screw holes.

    • Insert the screws into each pilot hole and tighten with the drill.
