THANK YOU! My Asus EeeBook just wouldn't start, whatever I tried. Until I saw your post, and did what you suggested (delightfully simple instructions - I'm tech challenged ) and watched with great relief as the black screen lit up! (the battery was on empty and apparently was not charging with a black screen). This saved me an expensive visit by a computer technician. Solution tried: Unplug device. Hold down power button for 60 seconds and then let go of it. Plug in the power cord. Now hold down the power button a few seconds and it will (should) come on. Worked to start my 6 year old Asus EeeBook (!)
