If none the other options seem to be working the last step is going to be a full replacement of the laptop screen. This requires tools and some time so it should be a last resort for this issue.

Device will not power on at all

When the power button is pressed the device does not turn on.

Make sure the device can hold a charge

First check to make sure the device has a charge. Insert the charging cord, wait a few moments, and press the power button. If the charging cord is inserted and the device still fails to power on, the problem may be with the charger.

Test to see if the Battery gets a charge from the charger

The device has an led charging light. It is the left-most led out of set of three lights that are on the front side of the laptop near the trackpad. If this light is not lit up, the device charger may be faulty. Replacing the charger may be the best course of action.

Replace the Battery

If the device powers on when the charging cable is inserted, but powers down soon after the cable is removed, the battery may be the issue. To change the battery refer to the battery changing guide here.

Sound won’t work

Sound isn’t playing from the speakers.

Make sure the volume is turned on

Locate the speaker icon at the bottom right of the Windows Taskbar. Right-click on the speaker icon and left-click on Volume Mixer. Ensure the volume is turned up and unmuted for each application.

Make sure audio is enabled in System Settings

Locate Cortana Search towards the bottom left of the screen, on the Windows Taskbar. In the search box, type in “Sound” and left-click to navigate to this page within the Control Panel. The first tab is called playback and should show the audio device that is currently enabled with a green checkmark, and any other non enabled audio device that windows can detect without that green checkmark. If your audio device is enabled try right-clicking it and pressing test to see if the audio device is working or not.

Update drivers

To do this press the windows button next to the bottom right control key, then search for device manager. Expand on the Sound section by clicking on it then find the name of your speaker. Right click and press update driver. From there search automatically for a new one online and follow Window’s instructions for installation.

HDMI port isn’t functioning

When plugging the device into an HDMI port no display shows up on the new screen.

Check Windows for a new device

Press the windows key on the bottom left near control and search for display settings. From there, scroll down to “Multiple Displays” and click the “Detect” button to see if windows can find any displays it might not have found automatically.

Clean out the port

Use a can of compressed air or a small pointed piece of plastic and carefully and gently try to remove any debris buildup like lint or dirt. After you remove any and all debris try again.

Try another cable

Try plugging in a new HDMI cable into the HDMI port. Plug the other end of of the HDMI cable into the HDMI port in the monitor. If the problem continues, your HDMI port may be faulty.

Additionally to the Laptop not powering on:

If you’ve determined that both the charger and the battery are functioning properly, but the laptop still does not power on; there is a chance that the power button (left side, towards the rear) needs replaced.
