about upgrading the rams

hi i have a used gateway laptop md2614u and it has 3gb rams in there already 1gb ram is generic and 2gb rams is hynix 5300 ddr2. i want to upgrade the rams to hynix 4gb rams ddr2 6400 will that work thank you
