Automatic screen rotation not working

I've had a Nexus 7 Gen 2 for a couple years now, and recently, the screen has stopped rotating in response to device orientation. Restarting the device used to fix the issue temporarily, but now even that doesn't always work. This also affects tilt functions in various games.

Check My Android reads 0 on the tilt sensors when the device gets stuck. I use Rotation to manually shift the screen, but this problem occurs with or without the app installed.

Any suggestions as to what might be wrong and how to fix it?

Thanks! I'd tried this before, but this time I used a few pieces of sticky tack to keep the ribbon in place. The fix actually held this time!

Nexus 9 Tablet Auto Rotation Fix

Try the following link: it works!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbGi0yoh...

Details:

Check first that "Auto-rotate" is turned "on", and does NOT work. Then:

1. Go the apps screen

2. Open up: Google

3. Got settings: top left three bars, the "settings"

4. Select Now Cards

5. Under Show Cards: De-select (turn off "Show Cards")

6. Turn off Nexus 7, and Restart.

7. Make sure "Auto-rotate" is turned on.

8. Auto-rotation will work again! (on most Nexus 7 tablets?, if it still does not work, "uninstall" Google Now all

together, and reboot. If you re-install Google Now later, and set it up, and reboot,"Auto-rotate will still work)

9. No need to tinker with the hardware, and open the tablet!

10. Spread the word.

Technical details:

When Autorotate does not work:

All my tablets are running Android version 6.0.1.

Kernel build: 3.4.0-g09a22c6

This worked for me -- Thanks!!

This just worked for my Nexus 10. I had to turn off my Google feed altogether.

I have Nexus 7 and bad the same problem, I installera "check my android" and verifiera that is was a hardware kanske. I was not able to open it up like in the the video to fix the Contact, but instead this:

1) Watched this video to get än idea where the contact is located.

2) Pressed very hard on the backside just above the contact.

3) Rebooted the Nexus 7.

Now the automatic rotation worked again :-)

1. Download and install: Check My Android.

2. Open the App

3. Select: "Sensor"

4, You will see that the following sensors are disabled, or do not work:

1. MPL Accelerometer

5. MPL Gyroscope

7. MPL Gyroscope

5. Turn off the "Now" cards in Google, as above

6. "Auto-rotate will work again.

7. Sensors 1, 5, and 7. will work again.

8. Interesting note:

If you turn on the "Now" cards again, in Google. Power down the tablet and resart. The "Auto-rotate" keeps on

working (ONLY ON SOME NEXUS 7 TABLETS (I have 5 of them, some work, some not)), and all sensors show OK? For now at

least!!! No idea why??

To play it safe, just turn of the "Now" cards, (or uninstall Google Now), and reboot!!

I was able to resolve this by simply squeezing the screen and back plate together with my fingers.

Tried this AFTER uninstalling multiple apps, including Google Now.... Only to find out THIS REALLY WORKS...! Thanks for the suggestion...

1) shut down Nexus 7 all the way

2) removed from it's leather case

3) placed it face down on a cushioned, flat surface

4) pressed down, with pretty good amount of pressure, across every square inch of the tablet - 2 or 3 times for good measure..

5) voila..!!

Ruben, thank you very much. It really works. I didn't need to deactivate anything and auto rotate is working now.

This is what worked for me. I used the Check My Android app from the Play Store to verify that the accelerometer was not working. I then did the press down treatment (resulting in several cracking sounds) and voila the auto orientation worked again.

Thanks

par

Thanks, when none of the setting changes worked, I tried pressing from the backside for 2-3 times , auto orientation started working :).

par

Wow. I was skeptical but this worked!

I used the Check My Android app from the Play Store to verify that the accelerometer was NOT working. I then did the press down treatment (resulting in several cracking sounds) and voila the auto orientation worked again.

The press down treatment is to put the tablet on a flat surface screen down then press firmly with a thumb all over the back side. I pressed once every square inch.

Banging it, restarting and rebooting (holding power button down) did not work for me.

I downloaded an antivirus software and cleaned out my tablet. It asked me to remove some possible apps (mine was towelroot). After cleanup, I restarted my tablet and auto rotation WORKED AGAIN.

Maybe it was a virus or a corrupted application that helped me once before to connect my keyboard. But anyway, after removal, my keyboard and all the functions on my tablet worked.

So try using the antivirus and restarting it as well.

This is a hardware issue. You need to remove the back cover and remove and reseat the larger ribbon cable. This will fix the issue 100%.
