My Sony Bravia 40" sony KDL40W650D 40 led 2016 will not power on via remote or manual button on back. Every so often the red light flashes 3times in quick succession. IT JUST STOPPED!!! Why? What could have caused this...Am I able to reset...if red light is on it is getting some power....why not fully on? Been reading comments - can I reset myself?

the 3 blinks can be caused by the TV going into overprotection mode. This can be caused by issues on the power board or with the power supply circuit to the main board. Remove the back from your TV and take a look at the power supply board. Check for obvious damage like burned, leaking components etc. Post some pictures of all of your boards with your question. That way we can see what you see. Use this guide Ajout d'images à une question existante for that.

Did you try unplugging it and plugging it back in?

I have had this as a recurring issue with my Sony 65” LCD for a few years and each time it has happened I have taken the back off of the TV and tried to figure out if anything was visually wrong. In all cases I did not find anything wrong with the TV internals and after putting the back on the TV and power it up it seemed to work again. Last night I had the TV go into the mode of blinking red 3 times again. This time I simply unplugged everything from the TV and tried turning it on. Imagine my surprise when the TV came on with no issue. It seems as though one of my components or HDMI cables is causing the TV to periodically go into this mode. I’m posting this because I know how frustrating it is not having a solution to a seemingly simple issue. In my case it seems as though it is something fundamentally simple, I hope this helps others out and saves you from spending unnecessarily on a new TV or “repair” parts. CHECK YOUR HDMI CABLES!

Not true, 3 time red blinking is power problem not LED screen.. you have to try a power cycle... check on sony side

Generally speaking, if a red standby lamp can be seen, the power supply is fine.

You could speculate a timing control board problems, and if this is the case,

chances are, the timing control board is in the panel, thus making the panel an issue. The signal board could be intermittent, as the connection on the HDMI

has cracked grounds going into the board. You may try HDMI 2 or 3. And yes I have seen HDMI cables go bad. Thank you for listening Matt of Martins TV Repair.

When these units are under warranty. Manufactures will send a new LCD screen.

I then , remove the boards from the original TV, and place them into the new LCD screen. Thank you for listening. Matt of Martins TV Repair.
