Phone no longer connects to cellular service after restart.

A few days ago, I restarted my phone after clearing some data on my device in an attempt to save storage (my phone was warning that my storage was low, so I deleted the phone's cache and the "Android" selection in the storage's "Miscellaneous" grouping after making sure all apps and/or media that could be stored on the SD card was.). As it finished rebooting, I noticed it failed to play the T-Mobile jingle as it normally would while rebooting. Upon completing the reboot, the lock screen displayed "Service Disabled" and the cellular service bars on the upper-righthand corner showed no connection. Settings won't allow me to turn on my mobile network, or even select it as it's now grayed out. It does not recognize what mobile network it should be connected to in the "About Phone" section of Settings. Additionally, the phone will not play any audio from any source, despite audio being on in the settings. It won't play ringtones, notification alerts, alarms, etc. It won't even play video files with audio in any applications (showing playback errors or just failing to play despite loading the file), in addition to locally stored videos.

I have tried restarting the device, removing and reinserting the SIM card and then restarting the device, and I just completed a factory reset, all to no avail. I am unsure of how this failure has occurred. I had believed it was a software issue, but after the factory reset I now assume it must be hardware related. I have no idea what the problem could be, or what steps I should do to fix it. I have disassembled my phone to see if anything seems amiss or damaged. The headphone jack seemed loose where it rested, but I didn't notice it until a ways into disassembly and can't rule out that it became dislodged from said disassembly. Besides a normal amount of human refuse from years of use, nothing seemed out of the ordinary in the phone's internals. Short of replacing the motherboard, I'm stumped. Any help would be much appreciated.

If you deleted the Android section you may of deleted some important data needed to run the phone. I never ever delete anything under android. Usually photos and videos, music etc. You might need to flash the firmware to reinstall the operating system. Never done a LG so you'll need to Google how to do it.

I believe I had deleted that file in the past with no issue, but I could be mistaken. I usually don't need to touch it, but my phone reported storage was almost full even after doing my usual space saving methods. The "Miscellaneous" section the "Android" selection is listed under in Internal Storage is about 3.8GB, the strong majority of which is "System Data" (which is always grayed out and cannot be selected for deletion). When I originally deleted the "Android" selection, said selection was a few MB, currently after the factory reset it's 0.93MB. Since the later is so small compared to "System Data" and can be deleted, I had assumed it was something like temp files or cache for the OS or maybe preinstalled apps. I guess that wasn't the case, if my issue is any indication.

I guess I might as well try flashing the firmware. I take it all I'll need is a PC and a USB cord to connect the two, plus whatever software I need to do the work?

@spookyautomaton I would say so. Definitely sounds like a system file has been deleted, especially as you had issues afterwards. Never had to flash a LG before, only Samsung. Google for the software online. LG themselves might have repair software. Good luck.

@strongbow Turns out you were right on the money, I managed to reinstall my phone's firmware and it fixed the issue.

For those reading in the future with a similar issue, or who are looking to reinstall their firmware on this or similar models, I followed this guide by user "Billybobjoe13245" on the XDA forum: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/unbri...

It took me far too long to figure out what I was missing when I had initially tried to follow other firmware flashing guides. Basically, the flashing software wouldn't recognize my device without a critical MSI file that the above user linked to in their guide. Spent many an hour scratching my head before I read a little closer on this particular post.

Use this version of LGUP instead of the one linked in the post: https://tbl-locksmiths.com/d/4-lgup-1163...

Otherwise, using what the post provides, follow the instructions under "Unbrick Using KDZ".

@spookyautomaton Glad I could help and you got it working again.

@strongbow Forgot to say, but I sincerely thank you for your assistance. Doubt I would have considered flashing the firmware without your input and suggestion.

This maybe be because it is blacklisted or reported stolen. This is more likely is it is second hand. If that does not work you can call your provider on a phone that works. If you have recently updated your plan you can check. You can check if it is blacklisted by calling your provider and give them the details they ask for.

Update (02/25/2023)

It is possible that the issue with your phone is related to a hardware problem, especially if a factory reset did not resolve the issue. Since you have already tried basic troubleshooting steps like restarting and removing/reinserting the SIM card, it may be best to take your phone to a professional technician for a diagnostic assessment.

It's also worth noting that if your phone is an older model, it may no longer be compatible with the latest operating system updates, which could potentially cause issues with connectivity and audio playback. In this case, you may need to consider upgrading to a newer device.

It's not blacklisted or reported stolen, I am the first and only owner of the phone. I haven't updated the plan either, and the associated T-Mobile account still lists the phone as being on the plan and active.
