Why won't my car stay running after replacing my alternator

I replaced my alternator and battery and my car was running fine. This morning it wouldn't start nor my lights worked. I jumped it and got it started then it died again. What could it be?

Hi @chrism33416

What is the model year of the vehicle?

Does the battery warning light in the instrument panel glow when the ignition is turned on? If so does it turn off after the car is started (jump started)?

With the vehicle parked and the transmission in Park (AT) or Neutral (MT) and the emergency brake (parking brake) firmly applied, use a DMM (digital multimeter) and check what the voltage is across the battery terminals with the engine running.

It should measure between 13.8 -14.5V DC. If not, since you have replaced the alternator, there may be a problem with the voltage regulator in the vehicle, (unless there's a problem with the new alternator or connections to it)

Be safety aware when trying this as the engine is running!

If you don't have a DMM most battery replacement service centres will check it for you.
