Screen won't light up anymore after replacement

Hi, I changed battery and cracked screen on my iPad PRO 12.9".

What did I do:

  • I first removed the screen, following the steps on the website. I then exchanged the battery with the new one from ifixit and re-assembled the interior;
  • I then re-attached the cracked screen, which immediately lit up (cracks included);
  • I disconnected the cracked screen and removed the home button;
  • I then got the new screen from ifixit, added the home button and connected the two screen connectors. And then - no reaction. I didn't remove the protection from the adhesive tape yet, I want to make sure this works before I close up the screen again.

When I plug in the adapter, I hear the charging sound, but the screen doesn't light up. Any idea what could be the problem?

Thanks!

Hi Mark,

Thank you very much for your extensive answer.

The iPad is the exact one as described above (A1584).

Both parts from iFixit;

  • IF323-022-1 iPad Pro 12.9" (2015) Screen / Part Only / New /
  • Black
  • IF323-038-1 iPad Pro 12.9" (2015) Battery

I checked the screen connectors on the board (zoomed in with my cellphone). Nothing looks wrong with it.

Important troubleshooting/deductive information:

  • When I had exchanged the battery and plugged in the screen, you could see that it worked (accept for the huge crack of course).
  • After this I removed the home button.
  • After putting the home button on the new screen, the new screen didn't work.
  • I tried putting back the home button to the old screen - the screen didn't work anymore.
  • In both situations, if I plug in the adapter, you hear the "bleep" that indicated the battery charging.

So the question now is:

Could it be the home button? If this one doesn't work/is damaged, does the screen remain black?

I already tried the reset (power + volume down). No damage is visible.

Kind regards,

Niels

did you disconnect the battery before connecting the screen

Probably not - is this problematic?

Replacing components with the battery connected could damage them.
