Follow this guide to disconnect the battery [guide|10365] stopping at the end of Step 3.
Now with nothing connected with the system on its side so the battery connector is not crushed, press and hold the power button for a good 15 secs so the logic board is fully discharged. Now only plug in the MagSafe charger the system should spontaneously start and the MagSafe cords LED should start off Green and then go Amber and stay Amber.
Let the system fully startup, do a proper shutdown and now reconnect the battery. Leaving the system off is the MagSafe LED steady Green or Amber? If Amber leave it be for a good 10 hours at which point it should be Green. If it’s still Amber you need a new battery [product|IF163-054]
