I get this occasionally , I have found that the following has solved this three times for me. Don't ask me why it has worked, it just works. Turn off laptop. Remove battery. Now press power button and keep it pressed for about 30 seconds. Now replace battery and plug in mains. Turn on computer, you should have your touchpad back working again. I know its an old thread but I still even in 2022 use my Dell e6410 everyday.
Thanks for that tip. I found it impossible on my own to fix the clip in the correct way. The i7 I have is thicker. Mine now idles at 35 deg C. Running some games will take it up to about 45-50. I used endurance for a stress test which maxed out at 92 but quickly went down again. I will be keeping careful watch on the temps for now.
