Dell Inspirion won’t turn on

The laptop will not boot up

Bad Battery Pack

If the power adapter is plugged and the battery fails to charge or dies when you unplug the power adapter you might need to replace the battery. To fix this, replace the battery first, then with the new battery in your laptop plug in the power adapter and charge the new battery.

Bad A/C Adapter

If you are having issues when your laptop is plugged into the A/C adapter, it may need to be replaced. First, make sure that the power source your A/C adapter is plugged into has power. If it doesn't, the problem might be that you just need to move it to another power source. If the problem continues to persist, then you will need to replace your A/C adapter.

Dell Inspirion is loud when turning on

Dirty or Bad Fan

If you start your computer and the fan persists to make a loud noise the fan will need to be replaced or cleaned with compressed air. First turn off the computer, then remove the fan to replace it. Restart the computer and wait for start up to see if the problem has subsided

Overheated Fan

There is a chance your fan could just be working too hard. The best thing to do would be to turn off your computer and let it rest for a bit. If the overheating is consistent you might need to replace the fan, or you can buy a cooling pad to set your laptop on top of.

Failing Hard Drive

If the fan is not the issue, its possible the hard drive in your laptop could be failing. Try to run hardware diagnostics first, to see if there is an error with your hard drive. If you find an issue with your hard drive or if the problem continues to persist even after a successful diagnostics run, you will need to replace your hard drive.

Unable to save files to computer

Full hard drive

You might need to clear your hard drive or internet browser of any temporary files and cookies files. To clear out browsing data, just go to the settings of your browser and clear out cookies. To clear out temporary files from your hard drive, run Windows Disk Utility Clean up.

Full internal storage

If you cannot delete any more storage you can replace the hard drive with a newer one with more storage. Save any files you want to keep on an external hard drive before replacing the hard drive.

Running out of Memory

It is possible that another program on your laptop could be using all of your computer's RAM memory. This is a simple fix in which you can go to your task manager to see which computer programs are taking up the most memory, and then ending the process by right clicking on the program and selecting this option.

Computer Not Up to Date

If you are having issues with the amount of memory your laptop is using, it might be that your computer is not fully up to date. Go to your computer's settings and check to see if your computer's software is up to date. If it's not, go ahead and install updates to see if that solves the problem.

Full Ram Drive

If you are unable to save any pictures, documents, or videos, and you have cleaned out your temporary files, you might need to replace the ram all together. Remember, it is recommended you save any files you want to keep before taking out the ram and fitting your laptop with a new one.

Insufficient Permissions

You might not have permission to access the contents of your disc. Try to access the contents of the disc using My Computer or File Explorer. Right click on the disk in My Computer to view its contents. If you are unable to access the contents or the contents will not load, you might need to uninstall the disk drive completely.

Faulty Disc Drive

There could be an problem with your disc drive not connecting properly to the rest of your computer. Open up the device manager on the control panel, then navigate to hardware and sound. Right click the disk drive (usually :D) to uninstall it, then restart your device.
