Laggy and Unresponsive Touchscreen

Touchscreen is unresponsive to the touch or has a delayed response.

Touchscreen not Responding

The most common reasons, beyond the failure of the actual hardware, of the touch screen being laggy or completely unresponsive are the software drivers that run the touch screen. The drivers can become outdated after a windows 10 update and an update will likely be required. To update the drivers for the touch screen go to the windows search bar at the bottom of the screen and search for device manager. This will bring you to the device manager window as part of the control panel. Once in this window scroll down to the screen drivers, click the side carrot to expand the driver list. Once the list has been expanded right click the touchscreen driver and click update. If the driver is not present, where it has been removed or has not been installed you can reinstall the driver by visiting the Acer website and searching for the device. Lastly if these two things have not worked check to see if your computer requires a windows update as this may fix the issues.

Device Fails to Charge

The device looses charge quickly while unplugged, or will not charge at all.

Bad Power Adapter

The most common reason for the device to not charge is a loose connection between the plug point and the adapter. To make sure this is not the reason behind the devices failure to charge, disconnect and securely reconnect the adapter from the plug point. If this does not work, attempt to charge out of a different outlet to ensure that this is not the reason behind the problem.

Device not Holding Charge

Unplug the device from power and turn the laptop over so that the bottom of the laptop is exposed. In the upper right hand corner, you will see a small hole with a small etching beside it. This is the battery reset pinhole, in which you can insert a paperclip or sim card removal pin for four seconds which will temporarily disconnect and reconnect the devices internal battery. Give the device ten to fifteen minutes before you reconnect power and attempt to turn it on. If you notice the problem is still occurring, attempt to clean out any dust or debris that may be in the port or bring the power cord to a technician to make sure that it is not failing.

Dim Screen/Grey Pixelated Screen Upon Turning On

Display will be dark despite brightness or when booting up will display a gray static screen.

Dim Screen

The most common cause of a dim screen is the most recent display adapter driver update. Meaning the easiest fix for the dim screen is turning off auto-update for the laptop’s display driver updates.

Grey Pixelated Screen

If the device has already updated to the most recent version of the display adapter driver, go to Windows settings and disable automatic updates. Uninstall the most recent display driver, VGA Driver version 20.19.15.4444. Then download the same driver from Acer’s Website as listed below. Install VGA Driver version 20.19.15.4444. The screen will then appear brighter and no longer show a grey pixelated screen upon turning on.

Device Overheats

Device will unexpectedly shut off.

Fan Issue

The most common reason for overheating issues is dirt in the fan and heat sink assembly. This dirt may also cause damage to the fans and cause them to not operate correctly however this is uncommon and cleaning will solve the majority of issues. The first step to clean the fans is taking a microfiber cloth (or some other cleaning implement that will not leave more fibers and dust in the laptop) mist it with Windex and wipe down the cooling ports and as deep inside them as possible to remove all dust in the area. After completing this take a can of computer duster compressed air and gently blow out the ports on the back of the laptop. Specifically, only blow out the ports on the back, not the ones along the edge. Blowing into the ports along the edge of the laptop will only lodge the dust deeper into the fan assembly.

Low Battery Life

The device looses charge quickly while unplugged, or will not charge at all.

Poor Battery Performance

The Acer Aspire series of laptops are known for having an excessive amount of ‘bloatware’ installed from the factory which causes excessive draw from the CPU and GPU that may kill the battery more and more quickly as the battery ages and loses capacity naturally. The first step to removing unnecessary bloatware is to search “install and remove programs” in the windows search. This will bring up a list of all programs installed which you may choose from to uninstall. Some programs that are known to cause issues are Acer Collection, Acer Configuration Manager, Acer Quick Access, Acer Product registration, and Acer UEIP Framework. If the battery continues to die more quickly than previously check for and install software updates.
