Laptop Will Not Power On

Screen is black and will not come on.

Faulty Adapter Cable

Ensure the adapter cable is connected to a properly working power outlet and that the light on the power adapter cable is on. If adapter cable light does not appear, then you should replace the adapter cable.

Faulty Battery

Ensure the battery is working properly by connecting the adapter cable to the laptop and turning on the laptop. If the laptop comes on with the adapter cable connected, but not without it, then the battery is faulty and should be replaced.

Faulty Screen

To troubleshoot the screen try turning on the laptop and listen for any sounds or lights. If you hear the cooling fan and see the power "ON" light come on, but the screen is still black, then the screen should be replaced. Follow this guide to replace the laptop screen.

Laptop Is Overheating

Laptop shuts off without notification.

Dust In Ventilation Port

Dust has built up in ventilation port and should be cleaned well.

Faulty Cooling Fan

Let the laptop sit for 30 minutes to cool. Afterward, turn on the laptop and listen for the cooling fan to come on. If you do not hear it turn over, then the cooling fan is faulty and should be replaced.

Laptop Is Malfunctioning

Computer speed is slow, the system crashes, and the device appears corrupted or unresponsive.

Computer Virus

Make sure there are no viruses attached to the computer. Viruses can cause your computer to slow down, freeze, or crash. Purchasing antivirus software will help defend against rigged links, suspicious messages, and malware.

Faulty Motherboard

If the computer contains no viruses and is still malfunctioning, then your motherboard may be faulty. A faulty motherboard will slow computer speed and potentially induce system crashes. If these are your symptoms, the motherboard should be replaced.

Dysfunctional Keyboard

Several keys stick, and many are unresponsive.

Tiny Foreign Objects

Negligent behaviors such as eating, drinking, and smoking often leave behind minuscule objects (i.e. bread crumbs, stains, etc.) that wind up underneath keys. Check first to see whether any such objects are present, remove any found, and then try rebooting the system.

Severed Connections

If the problem persists, the issue may instead lie with internal connections to the motherboard. In that case, the keyboard (and perhaps the motherboard) should be replaced.
