The battery has an arrow on it that points which end goes into the camera first. While holding the camera upside down with the front of it pointing towards you, put in the battery so that the Canon logo is pointing away from you. Make sure that the battery goes all the way in so that the release mechanism on the right hand side clicks into place. Close the battery cover lid completely. Make sure that the lid for the battery and memory card compartment is properly shut.

Make sure there is a SD memory card in the slot; if not, put one in.

Put in a new empty card. Or, download your pictures onto your computer to allow room from new pictures on the card by deleting the originals on the card. Make sure your computer has the proper software downloaded and that your computer has the correct requirements for that software. Refer to the camera’s manual for more information on software.

Make sure that the connecting cable is securely connected to both the camera and your computer’s USB port.

Make sure the camera is on. Change to camera mode and press the “Disp” button to cycle through its options, one of which turns the screen on and off.

Make sure the flash is on in the camera’s options by pressing the lightning bolt button (the right directional pad). See the manual for tips on using flash in different settings.
