Is it possible to unpair these controllers?

As it stands I inherited 2 Xbox One 1537 (non 3.5mm) controllers since they both have various issues I plan on combining into one good controller for PC gaming. While I can get these fixed, I need to deal with the pairing issue since these are used controllers and were paired to a console in a previous life. The condition of them is as follows

• 1537 date code: Recoverable with new analog sticks. Everything else works. Does not have the same issue as the 1419x controller.
• Xbox one shipping controller (date code 1419x); parts only and will be supplying the analog sticks. The issue is this controller goes to the console even with a USB cable hooked up with no batteries so I am reluctant to just do a PCB swap to fix the good one.

I because the issue is caused by having different revision secondary boards where one is more ideal then the other. In this case, the 1350 controller has the more ideal board compares to the 1419x controller. From what I can tell, these boards look to be the nothing more then to handle the ABYX and up/down/left/right controls. It also lacks any discreet components that look to be related to the Wireless portion. My concern is I will carry the issue over by moving the board over rather then the analog sticks.

My first attempt to get rid of the pairing was to hook the offending controller up to a Win10 PC to update the firmware to see if I can fix the issue. It does not fix this problem nor do I see anything in the Xbox console to do it.

Is there a way to unpair a controller from the Xbox One? I have access to the console so I can get rid of the pairing if I have to do it from the console.

Because I did not get a response, I chose to wing it and replace the whole board with no information on what should happen. Read my expanded answer on what I did.

The way to unpair them goes as follows:

• Remove the batteries from the controller
• (Optional?) Desolder the motors from the controller PCB
• Plug the controller into a PC
• Press the "Sync" button on the controller a few times. Make sure you are away from the original console the controller came from. You may also need to do this a couple of times for it to erase the pairing. If you did this right, the Xbox button should flash like it is pairing.
