Camera would not turn on
The camera does not respond or show any signs of powering on.
Dead Battery
Remove the battery and place it in the charger. Leave the battery until it is fully charged. Ensure that the battery is oriented properly and that the red locking lever is engaged when putting it back in the device. If the camera fails to power on after this, then a new battery is needed.
Faulty Battery
Make sure that the battery and the battery slot are clean before inserting the battery. If necessary, clean the battery terminals and the battery slot with a dry cotton swab and ensure that the cotton swab is not wet to prevent any electrical damage in the battery slot. If the terminals appear damaged even after cleaning, use this guide to replace the battery.
Faulty Charger
If the problem still persists, check if the charger is working properly by charging another battery. If the charger is not working, you will have to replace with a new charger.
Faulty Motherboard
After trying all the above methods if the camera still does not turn on, the motherboard might not be working. Replace the motherboard using this guide.
Date/Time keeps resetting
The date and time displayed on the LCD screen resets when the main battery is removed
Faulty Internal Date/Time Battery
The internal date/time battery charges from the main battery. It takes about 4 hours to charge from a fully charged main battery. The internal battery should last about three weeks on a full charge. Once the battery is fully charged, leave the camera turned off for 4 hours to charge the internal battery. After 4 hours, turn on the camera and set the date and time using the manual. To check if the internal battery is working properly, power down the camera and remove the battery after you have set the date and time. If the date and time are reset when turning on the camera, this may be an indication of a faulty internal battery, which can be replaced by following this guide.
Issues with LCD Screen
The LCD screen shows any signs of improper operation. These can range from the screen being dim, flashing, or showing any signs of improper operation.
Brightness Setting of the LCD is Low
The brightness setting of the LCD screen on your device may be low. To adjust the brightness, press DISP then select LCD Brightness and use the right or left arrows to adjust it. More clarifying information can be found in the device’s manual, under the section “Screen Brightness” .

Malfunctioning Flash
The flash isn’t going off or the flash housing is stuck in place and won’t retract or extend.
Settings Error
The flash does not turn on when the camera is on a Movie mode or the flash mode is turned off in the settings. Ensure that the flash mode is set to AUTO instead of OFF in the settings. To check if the camera is on Movie mode, check the LCD for a [ Rec] sign. If that’s the case, change the camera mode from Movie to Auto using the dial mode on top of the camera.
Broken Flash
If the flash does not pop up or doesn’t go off, the flash assembly is broken. It either has a broken spring or a burned out bulb, which can be replaced using this guide.
Malfunctioning Lens
Lens does not retract fully or does not focus or zoom properly
Camera Did Not Shut down Properly
If the battery was removed or died prior to the lens being fully retracted, the lens may be stuck in the position in which it lost power. Ensure that the camera is powered off, then remove the battery. Once the battery is fully charged, reinsert it and power the device back on. The lens should fully retract after this. If not then your lens assembly is faulty.
Faulty Lens Motor Assembly
During normal camera operations, the lens motor controls the autofocus and zoom functions. If the zoom does not work properly when the zoom buttons are pressed or the autofocus does not focus on the subject or the lens still does not fully retract when properly shutting down the camera, there may be a problem with the lens motor assembly or the camera motherboard. The lens motor assembly can be replaced using this guide and the motherboard can be replaced using this guide.
Malfunctioning Top Cover Controls
Top Cover Buttons or dials do not change the mode while turning
Faulty Mode Dial or Shutter button
The controls on the top of the camera provide essential functions to the camera’s operation. If any of the controls do not function properly, it may be due to wear on the button or electronic components under the buttons. Restart the camera once and check if the dials and buttons function. If the problem still continues, use this guide to replace the top cover.
Malfunctioning Viewfinder
Either no image is visible through the viewfinder or the viewfinder is clearly damaged or broken.

My SX60HS only works in Custom 1 and Custom 2. It is 4 years old and has been used very little. I get a totally blank screen when any other setting is dialed.
