Laptop Will Not Power On

The laptop will not power on when pressing the power button.

Dead Battery

If the laptop will not power on when pressing the power button, connect a charger and attempt to power on again. If the problem persists, the charger or battery may be faulty. Consult the Battery Replacement Guide.

Faulty Battery Connection

If the laptop will not power on when pressing the power button, check to ensure the battery is properly inserted on the bottom of the laptop. If the battery is loose, completely remove it using the Battery Replacement Guide and reinsert it. If the laptop still won’t power on, the battery may need to be charged.

Malfunctioning Charger

If the laptop will not power on when pressing the power button, plug the charger into the laptop and check for the orange light on the bottom right of the laptop to illuminate. If the light does not illuminate, the adapter may be faulty, or not receiving electricity and may need to be replaced. If replacing the charger does not resolve the issue, the battery itself may be faulty. Consult the Battery Replacement Guide.

Entire keyboard is unresponsive, or individual keys are missing or malfunctioning.

Unresponsive Keyboard

If the keyboard is not responding, try to restart the laptop. If the problem persists, use an air duster to clear any debris from the keyboard. If the keyboard is still unresponsive, it may need to be replaced. Consult the Keyboard Replacement Guide.

Corrupted Hard Drive

If the operating system appears to run an automated repair process and repeatedly fails, the data on the hard drive may be corrupted. This issue can be fixed by reinstalling the operating system from a factory installation disk. If a rattling or clicking noise inside the laptop is audible, immediately shut the laptop off; the hard drive's mechanical parts are likely failing and the drive should be replaced. Consult the Hard Drive Replacement Guide.

Insufficient Memory

If the computer is running slow on startup, or notifying you of insufficient Virtual Memory, it may need a RAM upgrade. First attempt to disable memory-intensive processes via Task Manager. If the problem persists, consult the RAM Replacement Guide.

The speaker provides no audio or a distorted audio with a static interference.

Improper/Outdated Driver

If there is no audio coming from the speakers, check to make sure the volume is at an appropriate level. If the volume is at an appropriate level and there is still no audio coming from the speakers, the driver may need to be updated. Access the Settings from the desktop, and navigate to the Control Panel. Select Hardware and Sound → Sound. Click on the problem device and select Speaker → Properties → Driver → Update Driver.

Broken Speaker

If the speaker has been physically damaged and/or broken, it can be removed and replaced using the Speaker Replacement Guide.

Unresponsive TouchPad

''The TouchPad is not responding to any input'.'

Misconfigured TouchPad Settings

If there is little to no activity when attempting to use the touchpad, restart the laptop. If the problem persists after restarting, the driver may be outdated. Access the Settings from the desktop, and navigate to the Control Panel. Select Hardware and Sound → Devices and Printers→ Mouse. Under the Hardware tab, check that the device status is "properly working". If not, click Properties → Driver→ Update Driver.
