Background
The Dell Inspiron 1318 is a lightweight, portable laptop. The Inspiron 1318 was released in July 2008 and includes the capabilities of a larger laptop with a 13.3-inch screen, weighing 4.72 pounds. This screen size was rare for Windows at the time but was seen on Apple Macbooks. The laptop boasts ethernet, Bluetooth, and USB capabilities. Its most similar competition at its release included the Lenovo ThinkPad SL400 and the Samsung Q310.
The laptop has a glossy, Blue Pacific lid and a matte black body. The standard price at its release was around $550, however, some customizations and upgrades could be added. These included processor type, memory size, and battery type.
The Dell Inspiron 1318 was released at a time when notebook laptops were becoming increasingly popular. As mentioned, it had competition but was relatively cheap at its base configuration. No failure modes or manufacturer recalls were discovered. However, many reviews state that the amount of USB ports provided is insufficient. Reviewers also find that the processor and graphics are too slow for gaming.
This laptop is part of Dell’s Inspiron series. The Inspiron 1318 was the successor to the Inspiron 1300, released in 2005. With the update came a smaller screen size and a cheaper price point.
